Aaron Belkin Statement on Dismissal of Ethics Complaints Against Brett Kavanaugh

After a specially appointed panel of federal justices dismissed 83 ethics complaints against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh yesterday, Aaron Belkin, director of the 1/20/21 Project, issued the following statement:

“Though the panel characterized the complaints against Kavanaugh as serious, it found it had no authority to investigate or discipline a Supreme Court justice. Among other things, Kavanaugh misled the Senate, went on a partisan tirade at his confirmation hearing, and vowed payback against liberals and Democrats when he said “what goes around comes around.”

“He has a lifetime appointment with no mechanism to hold him accountable for his behavior now that he is on the Supreme Court.

“The lack of oversight at the top court highlights the need to expand the size of the Supreme Court once the Democrats return to power.”
